ALTANA CO2 Neutral by 2025

CO2 Neutral Altana
By 2025 the specialty chemicals group ALTANA will reduce its CO2 impact from production and energy procurement worldwide to zero. Already in 2020, the company’s entire power supply will be converted to renewable energies. ALTANA will compensate for the unavoidable use of natural gas until 2025 by financing equivalent climate protection projects in the regions where CO2 emissions are generated. The same applies to offsetting CO2 emissions arising from necessary business trips, company cars, and the transport of goods. The specialty chemicals group will thus achieve climate neutrality in its direct sphere of influence by 2025.

Circularise PLASTICS initiative is entering the next stage. The collaborative project for circularity in plastics founded by polyamide supplier DOMO, materials manufacturer Covestro and Circularise, a supply chain transparency start-up, has reached the first milestone. The group is piloting the system this year and demonstrating it on the market in a production environment in early 2020. At CES 2020 (Las Vegas, January 7-10), Circularise (Holland Tech Square, Eureka Park, booth 51726) and Covestro (Smart Cities, Tech East, booth 313) will present the project to customers and open the consortium for new partners to join on the pathway towards transparency and circularity in plastics.

Fraunhofer starts development of refrigerant-free, energy-efficient electrocaloric heat pumps

Fraunhofer
Heat pumps play a decisive role in the energy transition: Sustainably generated electricity provides heat in winter and a good climate in summer. Nowadays, heat pumps work almost exclusively on the basis of compressor technology. Compressors require harmful refrigerants, the use of which will be restricted even more by law in the future. In the Fraunhofer ElKaWe lighthouse project, six Fraunhofer Institutes are developing highly efficient electrocaloric heat pumps, which do without harmful refrigerants.
