BASF has raised its profit forecast for 2026, projecting an adjusted EBITDA of EUR 7.4 to 7.8 billion. This marks an increase from the prior estimate of EUR 6.9 to 7.7 billion. The revised forecast follows a strong third quarter, during which BASF posted an operating profit of EUR 1.64 billion, exceeding analyst expectations. Revenue grew by 14.2 % to EUR 16.36 billion, driven by higher volumes (plus 2%) and prices (plus 12%). At EUR 1.6 billion, EBITDA before special items rose significantly by 15 % compared with the third quarter of 2025.

Geopolitical developments, particularly the Iran conflict, have been pivotal in shaping BASF’s recent success. Asian competitors, heavily reliant on energy imports, have struggled, enabling BASF to redirect demand to Europe and implement price adjustments. Despite these gains, the industry remains under pressure, prompting BASF to undertake significant restructuring measures. Since early 2024, the company has reduced its global workforce by 8,600 jobs. CFO Dirk Elvermann highlighted the progress, stating, “We are making significant strides in streamlining our global organisation.” BASF currently employs approximately 93,000 people worldwide.

Strategic Acquisition: BASF Targets Evonik

Beyond immediate profitability, BASF aims to strengthen its long-term market position through the acquisition of speciality chemicals producer Evonik. Markus Kamieth, BASF board member, described the merger as a “strong German response to global competition.” To advance the takeover, BASF increased its bid to EUR 24 per share, valuing the deal at approximately EUR 11 billion.
