INTRODUCTION

The development of radiation processing using electron accelerators requires good
control of the treatment parameters which improves the dosimetry quality. The analysis of the
shape of the scanned electron beam is of prime necessity. A Multiwire Beam Shape Analyser
(MBSA) has been developed by AERIAL (Association d'Etudes et de Recherches pour
l'Ionisation en Alsace) in order to insure good monitoring of the scanning length and
uniformity. This new device is compared with a classical technique of dose mapping using the
Gafchroniic sheet dosimeter. The test facility is a 2.5 MeV Van de Graaff electron accelerator.
The beam shape parameters are influenced directly by the beam energy, the geometrical
dispersion' and the straggling effect in the media between source and shape analyser. So,
experiments were made at 3 energy levels (1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 MeV) in 3 different geometrical
conditions defined by the distance between the scannmg cone window and analysing device.
